History

The Art Institute of California—Silicon Valley was established in 2008 as a branch of California Design College. Four years later, the school combined with eight other California campuses of The Art Institutes to create a single college of art and design within the Argosy University system. Today, the Art Institute of California—Silicon Valley prepares students for creative careers in design, media arts, fashion, and culinary. The school's professional faculty members have industry experience that they bring into the classroom—giving students real-world insight into what it's like to be in the creative workforce.

Educate and prepare students for creative careers

The Art Institute of California—Silicon Valley is truly a community of creative students and instructors. Many students choose to live in school-sponsored housing. Several social and educational events for housing residents are planned throughout the school year.

The Art Institute of California—Silicon Valley arranges study trips to local cultural and commercial sites. These visits are an integral part of each student's education and offer a chance for valuable exposure to places and events relating to the student's field of study.

The school building's newly renovated 53,000 square foot interior is designed with the creative student in mind. Spacious classrooms, studios, labs, a library, and an exhibition gallery provide a productive learning atmosphere. Students are given the opportunity to learn on industry-related equipment including digital and SLR cameras, Windows and Mac computers, printers, and sewing machines—or inside professional kitchens. The school also houses the student-run restaurant, The Bistro.

A wide variety of student clubs and organizations are present on campus and students are encouraged to get involved. Many of the student clubs directly reflect the interests of students in their chosen field of study, and provide an opportunity for networking and professional development. Students are encouraged to contact the Student Affairs Department with new ideas for student clubs.
