Program Overview

The Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program helps you to learn how to use your creativity to produce attention-grabbing communication design for film, television, and the Web. Visual effects are responsible for movie trailers, opening film credits, television commercials, animated network identities, and short promos. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as production assistant, assistant designer, visual effect specialist, or broadcast design assistant.

Program Description

The Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program offers students the opportunity to acquire skills in an exciting specialization that focuses on communication arts for film, television, multimedia, the Web, and a variety of digital platforms of distribution. By combining graphic design, filmmaking, animation, and sound, graduates will be qualified to create attention-grabbing visuals that inform, entertain, and support the aesthetics of a variety of digital fields. A visual effects and motion graphics designer combines a variety of skills including typography, color, layout, and design principles with audio, video, and the latest computer software technologies.

The Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program will provide students with the knowledge to use digital compositing to create layered and textural landscapes. Students will learn how to build a commercially effective seamless presentation through the integration of live-action footage, programming clips, graphic elements, and sound.

Students will acquire knowledge about the stages of the production process and learn how to be part of a creative team. Start-to-finish projects enable students to learn important conceptualization and execution skills. In the final quarters of the program, students will be able to choose an area of specialization targeting their career goals. Each graduate will create a portfolio reel of their best work.

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics will prepare graduates to seek entry-level positions as motion graphics artists, motion graphics designers, special effects designers, animation designers, multimedia artists, multimedia producers, digital artists, graphic artists, tracking artists, colorists, roto artists, motion designers, visual effects artists, designers, and videographers.

The mission of the Visual Effects and Motion Graphics Bachelor of Science degree program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in the film industry, television, special effects, computer graphics, animation, corporate post-production, multimedia arts, and other related fields, using diverse media platforms of distribution, by providing for a solid foundation in the principles of art, design, professional skills, and technical knowledge essential for their success.
