Video GAME ON: The Art Institute of Vancouver Listed as a Top Ten Video Game Design College by The Princeton Review & GamePro Magazine

Recently, The Princeton Review and GamePro Media  recognized the "Top Schools for Video Game Design Study for 2011," and The Art Institute of Vancouver, BC, Canada ranked number four on the top ten of the list for undergraduate schools.  This is The Art Institute of Vancouver’s second appearance on the list.  In 2010, the school was ranked number six.

The renowned Princeton Review conducted a comprehensive survey with 150 colleges in the United States and Canada. The survey asked approximately 50 questions associated with the video game design courses offered at these schools, with topics ranging from the quality of academics to the institutions’ facilities. Other important factors taken into consideration by the surveyors were faculty credentials and career placement. The report will be published in the April issue of GamePro magazine, and the article’s list with ranking, can be found online at http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/218324/the-princeton-reviews-top-10-grad-undergrad-game-design-schools/.

"We salute the schools on our lists for their commitment to the field of video game design study and the innovative programs they offer," said Robert Franek, Senior VP/Publishing at The Princeton Review, in a statement made for the press release announcing the study’s results on March 1, 2011 (http://www.princetonreview.com/game-design-press-release.aspx).  "For students aspiring to work in this burgeoning field, and for the companies that will need their creative talents and trained skills, we hope this project will serve as a catalyst for many successful connections."

Academic Director for Game Art & Design and Visual & Game Programming at The Art Institute of Vancouver, Marc Aubanel, has set the precedent for his school. Aubanel has an extensive background in the media arts industry including producing the TV program “Sanctuary,” which is now shown on the Syfy network.  In addition, Marc was previously a Vice President and Executive Producer at Electronic Arts Canada.

“Ranking in this top ten list by The Princeton Review and earning the acknowledgement of the video gaming industry’s recognized authority, GamePro magazine,  are noteworthy accomplishments,” states John Mazzoni, President of The Art Institutes. He proudly congratulates the Vancouver school for this success. “This recognition is a fine example of our schools’ dedication to the mission of helping students achieve their educational goals within their chosen career field; through programs administered and taught with innovation, integrity and excellence.”
