Program Overview

The Fashion & Retail Management program teaches you to develop, analyze, and implement sales strategies — including buying and merchandising practices, inventory control, and cost analysis. You'll also learn about coordinating runway shows, sales consultation, and working with manufacturers' representatives. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as retail and wholesale sales, stylist, management trainee, and visual merchandiser.

Program Description

What You’ll Study
The Fashion & Retail Management Bachelor of Science program at The Art Institute of Austin offers bachelor’s-level experience across disciplines in business and fashion management. This cross-functional focus enables students to expand beyond traditional fashion design positions and choose among entry-level opportunities in manufacturing, retail management, buying and merchandising, fashion publicity, and even business ownership. Students will complement their program courses with a component of General Education courses. These classes are designed to focus on developing strong communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Students will have multiple opportunities to develop real-world projects that are taken from concept to final product. This program also includes Internet and international components that respond to the rapidly changing world of retail.

The Fashion & Retail Management program offers individuals a combination of current fashion knowledge and business judgment that can lead to rewarding careers in fashion and retail management.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program are prepared to respond to the industry’s need for entry-level, professional positions such as sales manager, department store manager, associate buyer, buyer, display manager, online sales manager, stylist, special events coordinator and visual merchandiser.
